How Do You Create a Culture of Generosity? | Generosity InnovationLab

How Do You Create a Culture of Generosity? | Generosity InnovationLab

Giving tends to be a sensitive subject among a lot of churches.  Always has been.  And the recent economic downturn has created greater hesitancy among many church leaders when it comes to talking about money from the pulpit.  But Kingdom work doesn’t happen for free.  It takes dollars and sense to create the opportunity for impact.  And while we all agree that God is the ultimate Source of our provision, He often accomplishes this through the pocketbooks and debit cards of the people in the pews.  So how do you balance sensitivity to the economic climate in which we live with the clear call to live generously? It all begins by developing a culture of generosity within your church. This week I’ve had the opportunity to facilitate the second Generosity InnovationLab hosted by Leadership Network.  Seven teams from around the country (including Alaska!) have come together for a 12-month journey of developing a culture of generosity in their churches.  Chris Willard, Director of Development at Leadership Network, and Jim...

Multisite Central Support InnovationLab | Leadership Network Blog

If you haven’t seen it yet, cruise on over to the Leadership Network Blog to view my recent article regarding multisite churches and the need for central support systems and structures.  Its a primer for the upcoming Central Support InnovationLab I will be directing at Leadership Network in the early fall.  For more on our InnovationLab experience and processes, visit the the InnovationLab Website. As for the article, you can read the whole post by clicking on the link above.  Here is an excerpt from the article: In growing multisite churches, many core systems and processes require intentional restructuring, including: Communication Budgeting IT Support Staff Development DNA Transfer The lack of clarity on how these and other processes will function across all campuses produces great confusion and frustration. At this point in the growth cycle of a multisite church, the need for central support becomes evident. But recognizing the need for central support is only the beginning.  Many core questions regarding the complexities of multisite leadership, communication and distribution...

True Listening Is Important

True Listening Is Important

This week we added a new resource to our long list of Training Tools: Helping Group Members Become Great Listeners. We’ve had another listening resource, Becoming a Great Listener, for many years, but small-group leaders kept asking, “How do I help my group members learn how to listen?” Listening well is really difficult, and not many people are all that good at it. But group members need to learn to listen well if we’re going to have healthy, transformational small groups. Helping group members with these skills requires leaders to model them well. Plus, leaders need to learn how to make the most of teachable moments and to confront those who are not listening well. But before all that, we need to convince group members that listening well actually matters. In her article, “The Heart of Listening,” Beatrice Rusu explains why listening is so important–not just in small groups, but in all relationships. Here’s what she writes: Listening is important in all relationships. In fact, you can’t have a...
