My Advocare Health and Wellness Challenge – Day 16

Another Day Well, its hard to believe that 16 days have already passed.  As I write this I’m already into day 17 with just over a week left to go.  I look forward to reaching the end of the challenge and measuring the results.  I almost typed “seeing the results”, but I can already see them.  I can certainly feel them.  But I’m holding off till the final measurements to see just how far I’ve come.  But I must say, from what I can see and feel so far, its pretty impressive what changes can be made in a healthy way in only 24 days. But, as a friend pointed out last night, it really isn’t about the 24 days.  The Challenge serves to establish new habits, to form a new foundation for the weeks, months and years ahead.  And as I mentioned in my introductory post, that’s really what this is all about.  But often we need a ‘jumpstart’, a bit of a boost to get us going...

My Advocare Health and Wellness Challenge – Day 15

A Day of Looking Back…and Ahead For some of us, yesterday was a day to be away from work and reflect on someone in our past that had a profound impact on our society.  The degree to which we looked back upon the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. varies from person to person, but the opportunity was there.  This was the first year I have worked for an organization that observed this national holiday, so the time off was nice. Of course, I had no trouble finding plenty of things to fill it with. My Advocare Health and Wellness Challenge – Days 13 & 14

Two Days of Not Much New (And That’s Good!) Well, its the weekend.  That would usually spell “death to the diet” for me, but I’ve had absolutely no problem staying on track this weekend.  A BIG part of that is the fact that my wife and I are doing this together, and she is completely rockin’ the food prep.  I don’t know about you, but convenience plays a huge part in my ability to eat well.  Overall, the 24-day Challenge makes it pretty simple and convenient, but having a partner that is all over it by keeping the fridge stocked with easy to grab and go, healthy food has been a big part of my success. So if there was a ‘moral’ for today, it would be: Don’t do this alone.  If you’re planning to make a change in your health or any area of your life, bring someone along.  Your chances of success will be greatly multiplied if you are on the journey with someone else.  And in...

My Advocare Health and Wellness Challenge – Day 12

A Milestone Day Yesterday was ‘Family Fun Friday’ at our house, so after from time with the kids and late night TV with the wife, I didn’t make it to the computer to write a post.  But since yesterday also marked the halfway point of the 24-day Challenge, I thought I would make a quick check in. Day 12, the second day of the ‘Max Phase’ was another good one.  Energy was up and I felt great all day.  And from this point on, we’re running downhill toward the finish of the challenge.  I also decided to do a quick weigh-in last night to see how things are coming along.  In 12 days I’ve lost almost 8 pounds (7.8), dropped 1.5 inches off my hips, 1.5 inches off my waist, and 2.5 inches off my belly.  Awesome! My Advocare Health and Wellness Challenge – Day 11

A Max Day Today was day one of the ‘Max’ phase.  And when I rolled into the kitchen to start the day, I was a little concerned.  Maybe more than a little.  Why?  No Spark.  (Uh oh!)  Spark has been my coffee substitute over the past 10 days.  How would things go without my morning punch?  Well, I can honestly say, “Wow!”  I have felt AMAZING all day long.  I made a huge rebound from yesterday in terms of energy and, well, everything.  I don’t know what all is in the max nutrition packs, but its all good. We will be friends. Now, I learned quickly that the Max Phase takes a bit more organization.  Advocare does a good job of putting everything together in order to make it simple.  But you must be prepared.  There are a couple of “before breakfast” and “before lunch” packs that must be taken 30 minutes before each meal.  Forget that, and you might just be having lunch at 1:15 PM, hypothetically speaking...
