Coming Soon: Redesigned Blog

Coming Soon: Redesigned Blog

For the past few years I have maintained several different blogs on different topics.  Recently I have been working to simplify life a bit, and one of the results of that is consolidating some channels under this blog.  So, over the next few weeks you’ll see changes to this blog as I’m doing a bit of a redesign, merging content, updating categories, etc.  The end goal will be to provide relevant thoughts, ideas, and other content on things related to the Kingdom, life, technology, and other topics, all in  a simple, clean interface.  I’d love your feedback along the way to help make this platform as useful as possible.  Until then…stay...

My New Practice to Disciple Leaders

My New Practice to Disciple Leaders

First, “There is nothing new under the sun.” (Ec 1:9)  But there is always something new to us.  For me and the Small Group Leaders at LifePoint, the following process is new.  We have been blessed with a growing number of new leaders and participants.  Every six months we conduct a connection event where potential and new leaders are given a chance to lead and disciple others.  For years we have had the infrastructure of Coordinators and Coaches who were tasked with discovering, discipling, and developing leaders.  This is a major undertaking and has proven challenging due to time, relationships and information on how to disciple.  So we went back to the drawing board on the basic commission and command: Matthew 28:19-10…”Go and make disciples” and Mark 12:31 “Love your neighbor as yourself.” First, we listed all our small group leaders into four categories based on years of service and their experiences.  (Don’t over analyze this part.) Then we made a list of 6-8 leaders, one or two from...

Tools for Healthy Living

Tools for Healthy Living

What’s In Your Toolbox? I’ve found that one of the keys to healthy living is surrounding yourself with good resources and tools. So, I thought I would share one that I’ve gotten a lot of ideas from lately. I would also love to hear where you go for cooking and exercise ideas. The BuiltLean Blog I originally came across this blog when looking for some workout ideas a while back. I get tired of the same routine over and over (and your body does, too!), so I began searching for some good resources. Mark Perry is the creator of BuiltLean and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience alone. But Mark has also done a great job of curating a lot of great content through other writers and contributors he has brought on the team. Some of the recipe ideas, especially for snacks and desserts, are just fantastic. We’ve used many of them and are currently playing around with garbanzo bean flour for making pizza crusts, wraps, and other...

Beyond the Advocare Challenge – 1 Week Follow Up

Beyond the Advocare Challenge – 1 Week Follow Up

Now that the Challenge Is Over… I thought I would throw in a follow up post now that I am one week beyond the Advocare 24-Day Challenge.  I wanted to give those of you who have been following along, either through the blog or Facebook, an update, and I also wanted to test a couple of things I was ‘curious’ about after leaving the Challenge regimen behind. I’ve used several different brands of weight loss supplements/programs over the years: Herbalife, Beachbody, Standard Process and the like, as well as some off the shelf stuff, too.  I’ve seen some results with many of them, but I’m always a bit skeptical of a couple of things: I will gain the weight back once I’m off the program.  Short-term weight loss is great, but if it doesn’t set you up for long-term success, you’ve essentially wasted time and money.  So, throughout the challenge, one of the thoughts stuck in the back of my mind has been, “How much will I gain back...
