Social Media InnovationLab for Churches

Social Media InnovationLab for Churches

Part of my work with Leadership Network over the past year has centered on our Beyond Digital Initiative, a collection of events designed at helping churches take strategic leaps forward as they seek to leverage technology effectively to transform lives.  One of the upcoming events I am directing is a Social Media InnovationLab for churches.  Our first group will launch May 1-2 in Dallas.  You can check out the details through my latest post on the Leadership Network blog: In addition, I will be directing the Beyond Digital Leadership Community, a two-year collaborative experience for innovative churches and non-profit ministries that are committed to developing and utilizing technology to Kingdom impact.  At the end of the week I’ll have more to share on the fall launch of this initial group. Another piece that I have been engaged in but do not directly oversee is our Code for the Kingdom Hackathon Series (#C4TK).  Last year we facilitated events in San Francisco and Austin through a variety of church and tech...

Microsoft Store Holiday Marketing Experience #Fail

Microsoft Store Holiday Marketing Experience #Fail

Microsoft tried its hand at an ‘exclusive’ holiday experience as pat of its 12 Days of Deals promotion.  They offered early bird and doorbuster pricing on the new Dell Venue 8 Pro both online and at their retail stores.  But rather than creating some positive momentum in the early holiday season for the struggling software giant, inconsistent information, website crashes, and lengthy hold times brought the ire of customers, undoing any goodwill that might have been created by the prospect of these VIP only deals. Check Out the Facebook Fallout Like many, I received the promotional emails about the event starting this week.  I have been contemplating a move from a primarily desktop-based home computing environment to a more mobile setup composed of tablets using the new Microsoft OS.  So the thought of getting to test drive a new Windows tablet with full 8.1 OS and MS Office suite for only $99 was intriguing.  With a store at the mall down the street, I thought I would give it...

eBook Project

eBook Project

A few weeks ago I was invited to participate in an eBook project.  The goal was to create a free, useful tool for growing churches that would address a variety of key, common opportunities and obstacles leaders face.  I was honored to participate and look forward to the completion of my first “published” work.  I’ll let you know when its out (and how you can get a copy). My chapter is focused on developing a “Killer Digital Strategy” for churches.  My emphasis will be on observations from dozens of conversations with church leaders and Kingdom-minded technologists around the world, as well as an effective process teams can follow to develop a new digital strategy or evaluate their current strategy.  As a companion to my chapter, I created a sample agenda that can really be used with any topic.  I thought I would share that tool here so that anyone could grab it and put it to use.  I would love your feedback.  If you have any questions about it,...

Day 1 at #C4TK San Francisco

Day 1 at #C4TK San Francisco

Well, the first official day of the San Francisco Code for the Kingdom hackathon is in the books.  All together, over 100 technologists, Kingdom entrepreneurs and investors gathered to pray together, hear sponsored and spontaneous challenges, form teams, and begin working on new solutions.  Several teams met into the early hours of the morning, other chose to conserve their energy for the long day ahead.  This morning is already buzzing with activity and energy.  I am excited to see how God will use this collaborative to do great...

Let the Hacking Begin!

Let the Hacking Begin!

Today marks the start of Leadership Network’s first Code for the Kingdom Hackathon!  This hackathon series, which will be held in locations such as San Francisco, Raleigh, and Austin, is part of the Beyond Digital Initiative that was launched this year to promote the development of cutting edge digital tools and strategies to multiply Kingdom good.  I will be directing the second primary element of this initiative, the Beyond Digital Leadership Community, which begins this fall.  This leadership community will engage 10-12 innovative churches over a two-year period in order to accelerate their learning in the ‘digital space’, leveraging shared knowledge and outside expertise for the advancement of the mission of each individual church, and the Church as a whole.  Exciting stuff! I arrived in San Francisco yesterday and connected with colleagues and friends.  We spent a little time out on the town and turned in early in order to get a fresh start on a long first day.  In just about 10 hours, over 100 coders, developers, Kingdom investors...
