My Advocare Health and Wellness Challenge – Day 6

My Advocare Health and Wellness Challenge – Day 6

If you’re just tuning in, I’ve made the commitment to start off the year giving my body a bit of a ‘reset’.  Over the past year or so, my eating has been less than healthful (especially during the holidays!).  Prompted somewhat by this being the year I turn 40, I really want to establish a balanced, healthy lifestyle that I can sustain over the long haul.  But I want to start out right and build a good foundation, so my wife and I decided to take the Advocare 24 Day Challenge to clean out our systems and boost our nutrition.  This blog is a way for me to chronicle the experience, both for my own accountability and for others’ curiosity and encouragement.  Feel free to catch up on the other posts and follow along for the remaining 18 days (and perhaps beyond).

Today’s report will be brief since it is Saturday night and there are some great playoff games going on.  Speaking of which, I feel bad for Peyton Manning.  Tough loss against Baltimore.  I would have loved to see his comeback run continue.  We’ll see how the NFC matchup turns out.

Two quick observations from today:

  1. The Cravings Are On!  I mentioned that yesterday I was beginning to experience a little menu boredom.  We’re hoping to mix it up next week to add some variety.  Today, I really began to experience some cravings.  I think my body is realizing that this isn’t a short diversion from all the simple carbs and other unhealthy, processed foods I had been cramming down my cake hole.  Now its fighting back with a little psychosomatic warfare.  I’m not sure how long it will take for those cravings to subside, but it looks like we’ll need to buckle down over the next few days to stay on target.
  2. I Really Shouldn’t Miss a Snack.  Twice today I got distracted from what I was doing and missed my snacks.  What I found was that I began to feel a little fuzzy or lightheaded when I did.  Wasn’t a big deal, I simply went back and grabbed some fruit or veggies.  But keeping the regular influx of the right calories is important.  Sometimes we think reducing calories by skipping meals, snacks, etc is a good idea.  I was reminded today that it is not.

OK, I think that’s good for tonight.  The Packers and Niners are tied at 24, so I will sign off.  And as I do, Kaepernick blows by the defense for a 50+ yard score.  Good night!
