Technology and the Gospel | Leadership Network Blog Post
Last week I posted on the Leadership Network blog about a presentation I sat in on Thursday morning. It was given by Walt Wilson, a remarkable man that has merged technology and the Gospel in a powerful way through an organization called Global Media Outreach. Here’s an excerpt from the post:
Yesterday I had the opportunity to listen to a presentation by Walt Wilson, founder and chairman of Global Media Outreach. Prior to starting GMO, Walt spent most of his 40+ years in Silicon Valley-based companies, including serving as the managing director of US operations for Apple Computer as it grew from a start-up to a globally-recognized corporation with $5 billion in revenues.
Walt spoke on the pace of change in our world with regards to technology. He described it as “radical discontinuity” – change so fast we can’t explain it. The changes we’ve witnessed over the past couple of decades have brought with them immense opportunities. Some of them good; some of them bad. But as Walt spouted off a list of statistics that you are probably familiar with…Walt shared his belief that God is putting together this network [web and cellular] to fulfill the Great Commission in this generation. In his words, “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this device [cell phone] is where we will present the Gospel to every living person on the earth within the next 3-5 years.”
